Let's explore the delicious journey of making your own chocolate dice that are not just fun to create but also delicious to eat.
The Basics of Chocolate Dice
Before we start, it’s essential to gather your ingredients and tools. Making chocolate dice is a simple process that doesn’t require much, Let me help you through this process. You will need:
Ingredients:
- Callebaut chocolate (Callebaut chocolate has a high fluidity so fills the mould well)
- Colour Mill OIL Blend (Ensure it is the oil blend otherwise it will ruin the chocolate)
Tools:
- Dice silicone mold (Food Safe)
- Heatproof bowl
- Microwave
- Spatula
With these items on hand, you’re ready to kick off your chocolate-making adventure!

Melting the Chocolate
Step 1 - Pour a small amout of Callets™ into a plastic or glass bowl.
Step 2 - Place the bowl in a microwave and melt the Callets™ at 800-1,000 W.
Step 3 - Take the Callets™ out of the microwave every 15 to 20 seconds and stir well to make sure that the heat is distributed evenly throughout and to keep the Callets™ from burning.
Step 4 - Repeat this procedure until the chocolate has almost entirely melted. Some small pieces of Callets™ should still be visible in the bowl.
Step 5 - Take the bowl out of the microwave and stir the chocolate well until all the pieces of Callets™ have disappeared. You’ll notice that your chocolate is now smooth and slightly thicker. That means it is properly tempered and ready for use.
This process can time and can feel like it is taking a while to melt.... Trust the process and it will come out well!!
Colour the Chocolate
Now it is time to choose your colours and to get creative. Here are a few options:

Solid Colour
For a solid-colored dice, add the oil coloring to the bowl and mix thoroughly until you achieve the desired color.

Marbled/ Swirled
This approach is a bit more challenging but can have some impressive outcomes. Add some oil food coloring to one side of the bowl, stir only that side, and keep the other half white.
Alternatively, you can be more inventive by dyeing both sides to create intriguing patterns.

Pouring the Chocolate
With your chocolate melted, it's time to fill the mold. This is where the fun starts!
Fill the Dice Mold: Start by pouring the chocolate in to a piping bag, This will help you fill the mould easier.
Tap to Remove Air Bubbles: After filling, gently tap the mold against the counter. This releases any trapped air bubbles, ensuring a smooth surface.
Put the top on the mould: Making sure that the mould is flush together.
After pouring, let the chocolate harden. If tempered correctly, this will harden on its own. If it needs an extra hand, pop it in the refrigerator.
Unmolding and Finishing Touches
Patience pays off! Once your chocolate has set, it's time to unmold those tasty creations.
Remove from the Mold: Gently press from the bottom of the silicone mold to pop out the dice. Silicone molds make this task easy!
Clean Up Edges: If there are any rough edges, use a knife to carefully trim them down for a cleaner look.
Decoration: You can personalize your dice by painting the numbers with edible food coloring. For instance, using gold food coloring on black chocolate can create a striking visual.
Now your chocolate dice look like gourmet pieces of art!
